Film Genre Research- Paper Towns

When Margo disappears out of no where Quentin is on the search for the girl who stole his heart. The camera shots include a lot of close ups to show the facial expressions of the actors and how they feel. The blurry background helps focus on the face of the actor. The music and sound through the film give us a sense of mystery. Sound effects like crickets chirping, eerie soundtrack, and some instrumental sounds helps create the mood of the mystery. The lighting also play a large factor in the setting the mood and tone of the movie. The lack of light, and softness creates the loneliness feel. The dark atmosphere creates a strong feeling of mystery. With a $12 million budget, this movie made a total of $85.5 million. This movie was debuted at #5 on the New York Times bestseller list and won the 2009 Edgar Award for Best Young Adult Mystery.

Film Genre Research- 10 Things I Hate About You

Kat Stratford a young, pretty high school girl doesn't attract many boys but, her younger Bianca sister cant date until Kat gets a boyfriend. Bianca is determined to find Kat a boyfriend and Kat stumbles apon Patrick. Kat eventually falls for Patrick after a while of him chasing her. The music in the opening scene is happy and upbeat which expresses the typical teenage life, letting the audience know what the movie is about. The mis-en-scene throughout the movie focuses on the high school and all the kids that go there suggesting a normal day in the life of a teenager. The film starts with an establishing shot to set the day and time of the movie, and then pans down to show the view of the high school and students. Also throughout the film the font view is scribbled and messy to give the audience an idea of the type of film and people in the film. The film had an estimated budget of $16 million and made a total of $53.5 million. This film had 2 award wins and 13 nominations.

Film Genre Research- Love, Simon

Image result for love simon film nomination and awardsSimon Spier a 17-year-old guy shares his love story. Simon is gay and hasn't told basically anyone. He falls in love with a an anonymous classmate that he cant discover. There are a lot of over-the-shoulder shots in Love, Simon. This is because Simon is usually talking to someone about something and his facial reaction tells it all to the audience. There is a lot of emotion in the movie because the main character is trying to find himself. Through all the quiet scene the lighting is very dim and quiet so the audience can focus on the characters. The dialogue in the movie changes. The movie starts with Simon voice over talking about who he is and his life. The music throughout the movie is very dramatic and happy (a mix of pop music). The movie budget was around $10-17 million and made a worldwide total of $66.3 million. This movie won multiple awards including the Teen Choice Award and was nominated for MTV Awards.

Film Genre Research- The fault in our stars


Image result for the fault in our starsThis is teen drama based movie. This movie is about two young people with cancer fall in love. Hazel meets Gus Walters in her cancer support group. Hazel feels like Gus can understand her and they have a connection. However the two actors face difficulty after Gus is diagnosed with cancer again after his Holland trip. The beginning of the movie starts off with flashbacks to let the audience guess what has happened and then the shot goes to the actor being sick and that was all before. Transitions in the movies are used between shots to represent a flashback or present to the audience. Mis-en-scene is used in the movie when there is a close up shot of Hazel, allowing the audience to feel a personal connection with her. As a flashback there is a close-up of Hazel laughing with Gus, being happy. At the opening of the film the sound of a voice over women is heard but, it fades as the camera switches to reality of Hazel and having cancer. This movie budget was $12 million dollars, in total they made $307.2 million dollars. This movie won teen choice award in 2014, as well as other nominations and awards.

Film Genre Research- cyberbully

This movie is a teen drama. Taylor (Emily Osment) a high school student gets bullied online. The first two minutes of the movie start of with a close-up of the computer and texts between friends. You also get a look at Taylor's family, her mom, friend and younger brother. Some camera shots include, a medium wide shot of Emily crying against a tree showing her sadness from being bullied.The camera was constantly overlooking Taylor's computer with the social media website up. This is suppose to emphasize the unplug and get rid of the drama concept. Then, sad Taylor is crying and showing expressions of fear and pain, after being bullied. The editing of the movie is a lot of basic cuts from scene to scene. The movie starts of with upbeat happy music, even though you know the movie is going to get more sad. The featured titles match up with the person in the cut. The budget and revenue is unknown. This movie had two wins and seven nominations.
